Android 6.0 + Root for LG G3! [CM13 ROM]

android6.0-root-lgg3

For those of you looking to experience Android 6.0 Marshmallow with root today (not when LG updates in a few months), you can grab the latest CM13 ROM from CyanogenMod Team. These are official nightlies from CM Team and upon testing them as daily driver, I found them nearly flawless.

Almost everything works out of the box so far that I’ve tested including voice, data, bluetooth, NFC, etc…etc… The only thing not working was the 4K video recording but 1080P video recording and still camera works flawless.

Of course, this is also a pure AOSP ROM (What is AOSP?), giving you pure Google Android OS experience without LG’s additives.  What’s interesting is that my LG G3 with CM13 seems to run even faster than my newer LG V10, which has a faster processor.

If you are looking to try Marshmallow today, I can certainly recommend the latest CM13 ROM as daily driver as it’s nearly flawless.   So give it a test drive this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

CM 13 works fairly well on my G3 but it is very buggy. Bugs that shouldn’t even exist at this point in Android development; “cannot connect to camera”, really!?!? This bug has existed since Kit Kat, can’t they fix it by now?. Bluetooth doesn’t find any connections. Home screen widgets don’t update (using Holo). And all the silliness of rearranging many menus and removing quick settings tiles and adding a permanent “Edit Tiles” tile.

Not to mention the idiocy of multiple accounts. Really? It’s a phone, I’m not sharing my phone with other folks. And I really doubt anyone is sharing their tablets either. Not to mention it is extremely rare to even have different accounts on home computer and I don’t think Android is available for PCs. What a waste of developer time, possible introduction of bugs, and annoying screen icons that will never get used by 99.99% of users.

OK, first, you obviously haven’t been around long.

Second, the camera bug is a common issue in CM on ALL devices because the camera app on each model is a proprietary app, they won’t release the source for stock cameras so the developers have to generate them from scratch by trial and error, even if they do figure it out it takes a while, some never get figured out.

Third, the profiles and multiple accounts are for things like parents that let their children play with the device. You obviously wouldn’t want your child to accidently email that pic you took of your naked girlfriend would you? I think not! And that’s just ONE example of the possible mess that can be made.

Fourth, the MM custom ROMs are fairly new, the other bugs will be fixed as the ROM advances, the devs push the ROMs out when they boot stable and “mostly” function so that users can start installing and testing and give feedback on its issues so the devs can fix the found issues. Give it time and the little things will pan out.

And last but not least, android DOES exist on PC if you’d just do some research.

And one more thing, if you don’t like the initial build then build one for yourself and see if YOU can do better, otherwise, shut up or don’t use the ROMs at all, they didn’t have to make the ROM for anyone, be grateful its available at all for you. The developers deserve your appreciation for their hard work, they certainly didn’t have to spend their personal time and hard work to make a ROM for your ungrateful self.

Is it just me or I can’t download the GAPPS for the andro 6.0? it says “Unknown network error” everytime at around 60% of the download phase. Can you take a look?

I flashed the 12-02 d851 yesterday. Several occasional process stop, bluetooth share, and phone error messages. Also not recognizing my sd card. Going to try another clean flash to see if that fixes it. If not, back to 12.1.

I have an old LG G3 d852g (Vidétron version) and I want to install the last CM on it. But TWRP does not want to install it, saying the ROM is for d852, not for d852g. I don’t care about that, this smartphone is not used anymore for call, just used as a tablet, for some tests. How can I force TWRP to install the d852 ROM even if I have a d852g?

    • Droidriven says:

You can take your chances but you can remove the updater script from the META-INF folder in the ROM zip. Use a root browser(must be a root browser, not just anything that can unzip the ROM) to unzip the ROM and then open the META-INF folder and you should see a folder that says updater script, that’s what you’re looking for, you can edit it in a text editor and change the model number to yours or you can just delete it completely, then zip it all back up with the root browser using the most or best compression ratio then try flashing it.
